Rose Day is the first day of Valentine’s Week and will be celebrated on February 7. Roses stand as the timeless symbol of love, affection, and passion. Commencing the Valentine’s week, presenting a red rose is a classic way to declare your love to that special someone. Red roses, in particular, convey sentiments of passion, intimacy, and profound love.

Propose Day is the second day of Valentine’s Week and is considered one of the most special and romantic days. This day is all about proposals where you can propose to your love and make a commitment to your partner for life. You can ask your partner to be with you in the most romantic way possible. Romantic dinners or dates are one of the most popular ideas for proposals. But don’t forget to add a personal touch to your proposal because the more personal it is, the better it will be. Your partner will definitely appreciate it a lot!

Chocolate Day is the third day of Valentine’s Week. Chocolates hold a unique charm, symbolising innocence and sweetness. On this special day, presenting a box of chocolates to your loved one is a delightful gesture. Particularly if your partner has a sweet tooth, they are sure to appreciate this thoughtful gift. Elevate the sweetness by adding a touch of romance, perhaps with a bouquet of roses accompanying the chocolate box. For a personal touch, consider carving your partner’s name on the chocolates or customising the chocolate box to align with their preferences.

Valentine’s Day Week Day 8: Valentine’s Day, February 14

Last but not the least, the most awaited day of love, Valentine’s Day! This special day holds immense importance for couples, as it commemorates the essence of love in all its forms. Many couples plan romantic outings or exchange thoughtful gifts to bring joy to each other’s hearts. It is undeniably a day filled with love, care, and tenderness, making it truly special.

History and significance of Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day has been celebrated since the Roman Empire, which is long enough for humankind to perfect it and make it the whimsical holiday it is today! Although nobody knows the exact origin of Valentine’s Day, the most popular theory attributes the celebration to honour St. Valentine, a Roman priest.

The Catholic Church has now recognised at least two different martyred Saint Valentines who share many similarities, making it difficult to identify the real-life man behind the holiday. Both Valentines were martyred in the third century by the Roman Emperor Claudius. Both men were believed to have died on February 14th, although years apart.

It is widely assumed, however, that it is observed in honour of Saint Valentine of Terni, who was assassinated by Roman Emperor Claudius II. He, who was a priest, is supposedly known for secretly performing Christian marriages for Roman troops and preaching Christianity before it was legal.

Thus, he was placed under house arrest because he refused to renounce his faith. While serving his sentence, he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and soon restored her sight. The whole house converted, believing in the true power of God.

The news reached the emperor, and Valentine was announced to be executed on February 14. On the day of his execution, he sent the jailer’s daughter a signed farewell note: “From your Valentine.”

Later on, the church sought to make this festival a Christian celebration, so they chose to use it to remember St. Valentine’s Day.

Another widely accepted theory around the celebration of Valentine’s Day comes from the poet Geoffrey Chaucer, the first person to link Valentine’s Day to romance in his poem The Parlement of Foules.

He associates this day with romantic love, imagining that this is the time when European birds choose their mates. Others followed suit, including William Shakespeare, and gifting handcrafted cards and tokens became popular in England.
